Underway - Mayfield Depot - Manchester, UK

Underway was a project in collaboration with Standard Practice. We had access to an unused train arch in Manchesters Mayfield Depot, the brief was to transform it into a usable workshop space, where pottery, bell making and all sorts of free to the public workshops were held in 2018-2019.

All of the furniture had to be built on site in the archway with minimal tools: a chop saw, track saw and drills. This constraint meant we needed to use off the shelf dimensioned lumber, in order to work with the tools we had and maximize the budget. Simple, honest materials and joinery helped us create sturdy work stations that were the base for a lot of DIY making. The build included a coffee counter and shelves to display the objects that people had made. I finished the build with a hand painted sign, which was the first time I've done that (super fun BTW).
